How to Spot Coordinating Conjunctions:
- Look for Joining Words:
- Coordinating conjunctions are like traffic signs for sentences. They join similar parts together.
- Example: "I wanted pizza, but she preferred burgers."
- Check for Equal Ideas:
- Coordinating conjunctions connect things that are equally important. Both sides of the sentence should be able to stand alone.
- Example: "He likes soccer, and she enjoys basketball."
